Only printer manufacturers need to record printer cartridge information. However if this information were readily available by a simple scan using a smart phone, consumers would be ecstatic. As specific field contents are identified they will be added.

While the standard is conceived to be generic, there will be industry specific field requirements:

Only printer manufactures require ink cartridge data.
Some perishable shippers require shipping temperature parameters.

This information can be integrated with other manufacturing fields appropriately:

For Example - printer cartridge identification should be with Basic Product Information.
Product temperature parameters should be on shipping containers.
